About Karl Boonzaaijer Woodwork & Design
Karl Boonzaaijer Woodwork & Design is a Dallas-based carpentry shop specializing in custom cabinetry, heirloom-quality furniture, and tailored trim for clients across the DFW metro area and throughout the United States.
Karl is equally comfortable working from an architect's completed drawings or sitting across from a homeowner with nothing more than a good idea and a room to fill. He and his dedicated team collaborate closely with architects and interior designers through the shop drawing and design development stages. Trade professionals are welcome to bring projects at any point in the process, including before drawings are finalized.
Craftsmanship & Materials
The commissions we take on tend to share certain qualities: they are rooted in traditional design or classical architecture, they demand precise execution, and they are intended to stand the test of time.
Whether the project is a full-room closet system in rift-cut white oak, an architectural millwork installation in a historic cathedral, or a standalone piece of furniture tailored to a particular room, our approach is rooted in the same elements. Solid hardwoods. Traditional joinery. A finish that enhances the wood.
Karl Boonzaaijer Woodwork & Design primarily works with hand-selected timbers — including white oak, cottonwood, walnut, and cedar — and employs traditional construction methods throughout, such as mortise-and-tenon joinery and dovetail drawer construction.

Karl Boonzaaijer and his team design and build cabinetry, furniture, and trimwork for residential clients, interior designers, and architects in Dallas, Texas. Our projects have included kitchen and pantry cabinetry, closet systems, built-in bookshelves and storage, standalone furniture commissions, and millwork for classical and traditional interiors. Karl also accepts select exterior work, including gates and architectural woodwork elements. Every commission is made to order.

Start with the inquiry form on the Contact page. Our team will follow up to schedule a consultation, either at your site or by phone depending on the scope. From there, we develop design concepts and shop drawings, review materials and finishes with you, and confirm the build timeline. Build and installation follow once all details are finalized.

We work primarily with hardwoods, such as white oak, walnut, and cedar. Our team does not use veneered or engineered panel products as primary facing material on fine cabinetry or furniture.
Construction methods are chosen for the piece. Cabinetry and furniture are built using traditional joinery where the design calls for it: mortise and tenon joinery, dovetailed drawer boxes, and hand-planed surfaces on pieces where the finish warrants it. These are structural decisions, not decorative ones. The result is a piece that will outlast production alternatives.
-
Every project is priced individually based on materials, scale, construction complexity, and timeline. Our team provides a detailed estimate before any contract is signed.
As a general frame of reference: a custom furniture piece starts at [X]. A closet or built-in cabinetry project typically ranges from [X] to [X]. A full kitchen or pantry commission typically ranges from [X] to [X]. These are starting points. The actual cost depends on the specifics of your project.

Yes, and this is where the majority of our work originates. Karl is experienced working within design teams, reviewing shop drawings against architectural intent, collaborating on details at the cabinetry level, and coordinating with other trades on site. Karl is equally comfortable receiving finished drawings and executing to specification, or working through the design process collaboratively from the start. If you are a trade professional, the inquiry form on the Contact page includes a field to identify your role and project scope.

Use the inquiry form on the Contact page. Include a brief description of the project, the space involved, your general timeline, and a budget range if you have one. The earlier you reach out relative to your project timeline, the more options you have on scheduling.
